1.1.8: Projections for Growth in the Older Population More on the Aging of the Baby Boomers (II)

After the year 2030, the growth rate of the “young old” will slow because the birth cohorts following the Boomers, often referred to as the X Generation, are smaller in number than the Boomers. However, the absolute numbers of older adults will continue to rise. By the year 2050, those over the age of 65 will number about 79 million—more than double the current number.
